Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Stir in the almond extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the creamed mixture and mix well.
Fold in the chopped dried cherries and sliced almonds until evenly distributed in the dough.
Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each cookie.
Gently flatten each cookie with the back of a spoon.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
